New Soap Line!

I am thrilled to announce that I will soon be launching a new soap line in the ArtFire shop!

The new line is called Nothin' But... and features a variety of soaps that do not have any added colorants, synthetic detergents, dyes, or fragrances! Just pure and simple glycerin soap, with some added bonuses for your skin like Raw and Unfiltered Colorado Honey, Filtered Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Tea Tree Oil, and Gluten Free Oats!

I'm so excited to bring these soaps to market. As someone with sensitive skin, I know how frustrating it can be when fragrances and other additives cause rashes and other skin ailments. The Nothin' But... line is specifically for everyone who wants to avoid additives, but still get high quality, made with love, 100% handmade soap.

So, keep and eye on the blog and the shop, as the launch of Nothin' But... will be happening soon!

Small Business

Today I am proud to say that I donated part of the profits from my first sale(!) to Create Jobs for USA, which is contributing the funds raised to Opportunity Finance Network (OFN), which is a group of community lending institutions that finance small businesses.

As a small business that is trying to grow, supporting other small businesses is extremely important to me. Succeeding to a point where I can actually create a job for someone else is even more important, because than I know that I am pushing myself and my company in the right direction. Knowing that I am helping other people accomplish the same goals not only gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling, but also gives me a sense of accomplishment. :)

So, donate today, help small business grow and create jobs, and support small businesses by purchasing goods and services from them!

New Molds!

I was absolutely thrilled when the SO answered the door yesterday and brought a package from Taiwan upstairs for me. It had been a month since I had placed the order and the day was finally here- my new molds had arrived! Woohoo! I quickly got down to unboxing, examining, and showing them off to the SO. But the fun was yet to come, as I then prepped three batches of soap for molding.

Dare I say that these are the BEST three dimensional silicone molds ever? They are wonderfully sturdy, and produce gorgeous details in the soap. Sure, I had to hunt down a stash of rubber bands for use on the tallest mold, but that was the biggest issue I had. It seemed like an obnoxiously long time waiting for the soap to set, but I attribute that to just being so anxious to get the finished product out!

Eventually, the time came and I happily, and carefully, pried apart the molds to see my new creations. As I said- GORGEOUS! The detail is astounding, and everything looks so beautiful! I just can't get over the results! Was the wait and expense (a single mold can run up to $40, before shipping expenses) worth it? YES!!!

So, to share my joy, here are some quick shots (from the phone, sorry...) of 2 of the resulting soaps. The picture of the third was terrible, so it will come later after the battery is charged in the actual camera.

Wow... forgetful, aren't I? The molds were purchased from EGBHouse on eBay. They were great to work with, since the eBay system didn't calculate the combined shipping, but they kindly credited me back the overage. Wonderful products, amazing designs, and definitely worth the cost and the wait!

New Soap Supplies!

Today was a great day as it marked the arrival of my latest order from Bramble Berry- thirty pounds of soap base, new colorants, a pound of cocoa butter, and two new molds! Lugging the hefty box up the stairs wasn't fun, but I was so eager to get in it and get the stuff out. In addition to my order, I received a sample vial of their Lavender Chamomile Huggies fragrance, which smells just like my favorite bubble bath. The empty box was happily received by the cats after I'd taken my haul to the kitchen. I've had to hide away the cocoa butter because the SO keeps trying to steal it!

I tested out some of the new colorants, and I am really happy to be working with my favorite base again. Now I'm just left waiting for my other orders to come in; I am waiting on a couple more molds and about four pounds of shea butter. Once everything is here I'll have more stuff to try out and some Christmas presents to make. While I wait, I am working with the most recent batch of scents I received from Natures Garden Candles. I have some holiday scents that I can't wait to use so I can get more soaps up in my shop on Artfire.

Other than that, we're gearing up for Halloween here at home, although I've been rather slow in getting the place decorated this year. We're hosting a party to celebrate, but I wish we had more trick-or-treaters that came by. A bunch of kids moved in nearby, so maybe this year we'll get to hand out some candy. Heaven knows we don't need it!
